"I come from a proud family that has been involved with public service for as long as I can remember.  As a member of your school board I promise to fight for what is best for Grand Ledge.  Together we can make a positve difference in the future of our students, Grand Ledge families and this community."
LIST OF ISSUES
1. Community Unity/ Establishing a transparent plan

There has recently been a disconnect between our board, administration, teachers and the community. A more open dialog must be reached in order for the community to have a good idea of what the future plans are for the Grand Ledge district.  I feel there has been very little community outreach and information shared by this Board. What is our plans for the future? Where are we headed? Where can I find this information?

These are  all questions the community should be able to find easily and quickly. Establishing a 5 year plan, with direction from the community, is imperative for the vision and future of Grand Ledge.

2. New Innovative ideas

The Grand Ledge board should be asking itself if it is doing everything it can to use our limited resources to provide the best education for our students.  I feel certain ideas need to be investigated further.

Ideas such as:

  • Semesters or trimesters?

  • What should be done with Sawdon?

  • Would duel enrollment be a good idea for our district?

3. Prioritizing money

I have dedicated my life to educating and I believe I would bring a different perspective to the Grand Ledge Board of Education.  Being in the classroom, I feel I am uniquely qualified to help fellow members see what is most effective and efficient in the classroom, in school building and on a district-wide basis.

4. Be transparent and specific with bond proposals.

The Grand Ledge community wants to financially help our schools and the students. However, to date, the Board has not been very open about how it spends this money.

Transparency is of most importance when discussing the allocation of public funds. The community should be made aware of how funds are being spend, especially when large amounts are being discussed.  It would be helpful to have a community forum where Board members can be asked questions about these needs before a vote is taken.
